Antifreeze danger

Winter is coming which means an increase in the use of Antifreeze. Antifreeze often contains ethylene glycol, which is highly toxic to cats and other animals. Less than a teaspoonful can be fatal if ingested. Follow these tips to keep animals safe:

Use propylene glycol as opposed to ethylene glycol based antifreeze. Although propylene is still poisonous if ingested by cats, it is not as lethal.
Check your driveway and under your car regularly. Any antifreeze leakages must be cleaned up immediately and the materials used carefully discarded.
Always keep antifreeze in clearly labelled, sealed containers when not in use.

If you suspect your pet has ingested antifreeze, contact a Vet immediately!

Stomach Problems

Mild stomach upsets in cats are not uncommon - a sudden change in diet, over eating, or an intolerance to a food not usually consumed can cause stomach upsets in cats. Starving for a short time and giving a bland diet for 7 days before transitioning back onto their normal food is recommended. FERTILITY in HYBRID CATS

Fertility in the Bengal and Savannah cats are often talked about in breeding. Bengals and Savannahs can be fertile as early as 5 month old, but can also take up to 2 to 3 years to become fertile, although its more normal for domestic female domestics to be fertile at 12 to 18 months, and male domestics to be fertile at 12 to 24 months. Once fertile this fertility can be interrupted due to stress or illness. Once a males fertility is interrupted it can then take another three months before fertility gets back to normal. If the stressful situation hasn't changed then the fertility may be limited in that environment. Cat/Kitten Pet Passports

If you are planning to take your cat/kitten with you abroad in the neat future you will need to plan a few weeks ahead. They will need a pet passport which your vet can issue: Make an appointment with your vet several weeks before you are due to travel to give plenty of time for your pet passport to become valid. You will need to take all your cat/kittens details with you, and your details as their owner, so that they can be added to the pet passport. You vet will give your cat/kitten a health check and microchip your cat/kitten if they don't already have one. These details will be added to your pet passport. Your vet will then take the vaccination details from your vaccination card and enter these on your pet passport - some countries insist on these details on your pet passport and not on a separate vaccination card.
